Paul Steward - CEO
Paul Steward was raised on the Elem Indian Colony of Pomo Indians of the Sulphur Bank Rancheria. He learned his tribal traditions and cultural values from his grandmother Priscilla, his step-grandfather Pete, and a large network of aunts, uncles, and cousins. At the age of 12, he moved to Santa Rosa, California.
Paul graduated from Montgomery High School in Santa Rosa in 2003. He briefly attended the University of Nevada, Reno, to study music, but after one semester returned to California. He then enrolled part-time at Santa Rosa Junior College while continuing to work and perform in music full-time. During his teenage years, he also gained firsthand knowledge of Native American tribal governance, culture, and politics through observing his father, Richard, and his father’s colleagues. Together, Paul and his father formed the internationally recognized musical group Twice As Good.
In 2008, Paul entered the Business program at Santa Rosa Junior College and earned an Associate of Arts in Business Administration in 2010. That same year, he transferred to Sonoma State University, where he completed a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration in 2012.
Following his undergraduate studies, Paul gained professional experience working with companies including Digital Prints and Imaging in Santa Rosa and Graton Resort & Casino in Rohnert Park. In 2015, he returned to Sonoma State University to pursue graduate studies, earning a Master of Business Administration (MBA) in 2017.
During his graduate program, Paul began co-lecturing in 2016 with Dr. Greg Sarris of the Graton Rancheria in a Sonoma State University course focused on North Bay tribal history within the Native American Studies department.
In 2018, Paul expanded his international experience by working in Tokyo, Japan, on a six-week marketing project for a blockchain company, Early Works Ltd. / Bexam.
In 2019, he began teaching American Indian Studies at San Francisco State University under the leadership of department chairs Dr. Joanne Barker and Dr. Robert Collins.
The COVID-19 pandemic (2020–2021) presented significant challenges. During this time, Paul began an Executive Doctorate of Business Administration program at Saint Mary’s College of California in Moraga. However, due to the demands of the lockdown and family responsibilities, he paused his studies, with plans to resume in the future.
In 2022, Paul legally founded 2XG Records, LLC, (However, it had been operating informally since 2003, when Paul and his father began their music career.) He released his solo debut album, World Champion, and embarked on an intermittent international tour over the next two years, performing in Japan, Scotland, England, Belgium, Italy, and Switzerland. He also co-released a song collaboration with the South African artist Omo Phola, an Afro-Beat track titled Ride With Me.
In the summer of 2023, Paul was appointed by Councilmember Eddie Alvarez to serve on the Art in Public Places Committee for the City of Santa Rosa, a role he held through fall 2024.
In the fall of 2023, he began teaching Native American Studies at Laney College and Business Administration at Santa Rosa Junior College. In September of that year, he produced and released the 10th album from 2XG Records, The Second Coming, by Twice As Good.
In early 2024, Paul was featured at the San Francisco Chapter of the Recording Academy (Grammys) Annual Member Party and Nominee Celebration.
Paul’s father, Richard, retired in June 2024 after a distinguished 21-year career as rhythm guitarist and backup vocalist for Twice As Good. He passed away in April 2025, and Paul continues to carry forward his legacy.
In March 2025, Paul was appointed Faculty Coordinator of the Native American Center at Santa Rosa Junior College, serving in both an administrative and faculty relations capacity.
Paul Steward released his second solo album—and eleventh overall—You Can Dance to My Blues in May 2025 through 2XG Records in May of 2025. He was also featured on a track with the Japanese Rock band Milliampear, on a song called 踊る莫迦 Ⅱ (Odorubaka 2). Later that year, in September, Paul was a featured performer at the La Media Torta event: Tortazo Blues; in Bogota, Colombia. A concert of Colombia's top Blues and Roots artists. Through Paul's fusion of Native American Pomo music and contemporary music, he was invited to the event.
Paul's latest venture is in the works, partnering with his significant other, they are launching a new clothing brand! Honeybear and Doodles. More to be announced soon.
